Salone Dugentesco
The Salone Dugentesco is an ancient building, which is part of the Antico Ospedale Maggiore complex, located opposite the fascinating Sant’Andrea Abbey. The initial construction dates back to 1224, hence the name ‘Dugentesco’, as a hostel to accommodate pilgrims travelling along the Via Francigena.
The graceful portico, with pointed arches, leads to the wonderful hall: with a rectangular shape, it is divided into three naves, separated by pillars and vaults. There is a beautiful fresco on the left wall, a Crucifixion attributed to the school of Bernardo Lanino, dating back to the 16th century. A truly fascinating place where it is still possible to breathe in an ancient medieval atmosphere.
